High school graduates begin their next chapter

While many of our scholars are heading back to elementary, middle, and high school classrooms this fall, six For a Real Change scholars are stepping into an entirely new chapter: life after high school. We are proud to celebrate graduates from My Sister is Succeeding, Owner of My Future, and Minding My Math Business—and especially excited to cheer on Lucy Zelaya, Ahniya Bruton-Rogers, Rebeca Jose Andres, and Loti Gishe as they begin their college journeys this month.

Four Scholars, Four New Journeys

Lucy Zelaya, a Mi Futuro Scholar in our Owner of My Future program, will begin at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College, where she plans to study psychology.

Ahniya Bruton-Rogers will attend the University of Kentucky and also plans to study psychology. Ahniya participated in My Sister is Succeeding and was a MySiS Scholar for multiple years.

Rebeca Jose Andres, also a Mi Futuro Scholar, will attend Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College as she begins her journey toward becoming a dental hygienist. Rebeca also received our Owner of My Future Scholarship to assist with tuition and fees.

Loti Gishe, a My Sister is Succeeding Scholar, was awarded our first My Sister is Succeeding Scholarship. She will attend Northeastern University, majoring in Health Sciences on the Pre-Med Track as she works toward her goal of becoming a physician.

“I hope to build a career where I can provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients while working to make healthcare more accessible for individuals and communities who face barriers to receiving the care they need,” Loti said.

We are also proud to celebrate Christian Scott and Kai Williams, who participated in Minding My Math Business and graduated this year. As they begin their next chapters after high school, we celebrate this milestone and are proud that For a Real Change was able to be part of their journey.
