Will the program be in English?

All of the program content will be delivered in English. Some program leaders also speak Spanish. If there are any times in which someone says something in Spanish, there will be an English translation. 

Who can participate?

The program is designed for Latina girls in grades 6 – 12. The program is open to all girls within that age group in the Bowling Green / Warren County area. Youth are split into groups based on their grade level with groups expected for 6-8 and 9-12 grades.

When and where will it take place?

Dueña de mi futuro will take place for four consecutive Saturdays October 22 – November 12 from 9:00am – 12:00pm and continues Saturdays February 18 – March 11 in Gary Ransdell Hall on the campus of Western Kentucky University. 

How will the program be setup? What activities will the girls participate in during their time?

During the 3.0 hours, the young ladies will all hear from a primary speaker. Then, they will break into smaller groups to work through guided activities and discussions. The participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a career exploration activity in different locations at WKU as well as physical activity, such as yoga or zumba also. 

Who will be speaking on Saturdays?

The speakers for 2022-23 will be added in October.

What will participants need to have with them for the program? 

We will provide the girls with all supplies. 

Do youth need to participate each Saturday?

We encourage parents and families to have youth present each Saturday because the content builds off lessons and group conversations from the previous week. With that being said, we also understand that sometimes youth will have to miss a week. That is completely fine. We have an option in the registration form for parents to let us know what days they may miss. 

Are there any costs for participating?

The program is $20 for the academic year. If the $20 registration fee is not possible, we will have a limited number of sponsored registrations available. Please select that option on the registration form.
