Living as Leaders Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

  • The current program is structured for girls in grades 3 – 5 within driving distance from Bowling Green / Warren County. Girls are typically split into a group based on grade.
  • Since the program is offered virtually this academic year, girls beyond driving distance from Bowling Green and Kentucky can participate online.

What does a regular Saturday consist of, in-person?

Each Saturday of Living as Leaders, participants can begin checking in youth at 8:45am. During the program girls will participate in an opening activity for them to get to know each other, an engaging leadership lesson, and a life skills topic. Girls will be in a full group with all grades for the opening and closing, and they will have leadership and life skills topics with those within their age group. Youth will have a break time, and they end with a motivational charge from a guest speaker.

What does a regular Saturday consist of, online?

Offering Living as Leaders hybrid provides an option for youth to join in some of the same activities that youth in person participate in. We plan for youth participating online to hear the same opening and closing via live stream. However, the Living as Leaders virtual facilitators will guide the leadership, life skills, and applied learning activities.

How much does the program cost?

There is a $10.00 cost to participants during the spring 2022 edition of Living as Leaders. This fee can be paid before the program begins or on the first day. Limited sponsored registrations are available, please email to see if any sponsored registrations are available.

What supplies are needed?

Supplies are provided to those that participate in person. Online participants may need a writing tool, markers, scissors, and glue. Other supplies will be communicated in advance.

Where will the program be? Can I park and wait?

Living as Leaders is offered in-person and online via Zoom. The in-person meeting will take place in Gary Ransdell Hall at Western Kentucky University. You can find this building by adding 503 Regents Avenue, Bowling Green, KY 42101. On January 22 and 29, we expect there to be parking for parents/guardians to park and bring in youth. Parents/guardians can park in any non-reserved parking space on the weekends. Gary Ransdell Hall has parking on the side of the building. On February 5, there will be multiple programs happening in the building that may limit parking for those who arrive closer to our start time. Parents/guardians can park across the street at Health Services. We will also send communication about additional options.

Do youth need to attend each Saturday?

We encourage parents and families of young leaders to bring youth each Saturday because the content builds off lessons from the previous month. We find that the youth make positive connections with other youth that are enhanced each time they meet. With that being said, we understand that sometimes youth will have to miss a Saturday.
