For a Real Change, Inc. is pleased to introduce you to founder and Board Chair Aurelia Spaulding. We celebrate Aurelia and appreciate her vision and commitment to social change that she brings to the organization. Let us tell you about her.
Aurelia attributes the founding of For a Real Change, Inc. to a series of events taking place over the course of seven years. She explains her “move forward” moment came after learning how much her younger cousins enjoyed reading and learning but opportunities for learning outside the classroom were limited in their area. Aurelia made a personal commitment to ensure youth with lower family incomes could access quality opportunities to learn outside the classroom.
“I wanted to start an organization that would be an extension of the education youth received in the traditional classroom (or at home), create pathways to further develop their critical thinking and leadership, and be accessible to those who may not have access,” Spaulding said. “And, I also wanted to introduce youth from underrepresented backgrounds to explore career fields that lack diversity.
Aurelia brings nearly 15 years of experience in leadership and service education and programming. She has managed a Bonner Leader program, Student Ambassadors of Service group, and countless volunteer service events. She has taught in the Organizational Leadership and Citizenship & Social Justice programs at WKU. Aurelia also oversaw the national service program of Gamma Sigma Sigma as their National Service Director.
In addition to a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations, Master of Public Administration degree, and graduate certificate in Leadership Studies from Western Kentucky University, Aurelia earned a Volunteer Management Certificate from the Center for Nonprofit Management. All papers aside, Aurelia enjoys learning from people the most – listening to and sharing their stories.
